Łódź Film Fund

Following its many-year film tradition Łódź perceives the film production in the area of the City as one of major ways of promoting its potential. The film production financial support is both to encourage audiovisual undertakings in Łódź and to provide financing, which might be in many cases quite significant for finalizing a project.

Every year a specific amount of money is provided by the City budget (in 2009 it is 1 million PLN) to subsidize film production in the Łódź locations. The project is conducted as a contest for subsidizing feature documentary or animated film productions and proves more and more successful year by year. Detailed information about the nearest editions shall be provided in advance on our website.

Below there are some general principles.

Requirements for project applicants:

1. if required under applicable acts, any confirmation of being involved in film-related operations,

2. necessary knowledge and experience, also technical potential and staff to ensure that the project can be carried out,

3. economic and financial situation enabling to carry out the project.

The funds provided by the City in 150% (100% of subsidy + 50% of own contribution) should be spent in the area of Łódź with their 100% involved in the stage of shooting.

In particular, the contest subsidizes projects of high artistic values.

In 2008 the Fund beneficiaries were:
Educational Film and Program Production Company – a documentary "Nekropolis" by Andrzej Czulda,
KRAKATAU – a feature film "Jestem Twój" by Mariusz Grzegorzek,
SE-MA-FOR – an animated film "Zuzanna"  by Darii Kopiec,
SE-MA-FOR - an animated film "Danny Boy" by Marek Skrobecki,
N Film Studio – a documentary "Kern" by Grzegorz Królikiewicz,
ANIMA-POL – a feature film "Nie ten człowiek" by Paweł Wendorff.

In 2007 the following productions were subsidized by the city funds:

OPUS-FILM – feature film "Spring 1941" by Uri Barbash,
Se-Ma-For – music and documentary film "Miasto płynie" by Balbina Bruszewska,
Film Studio PERSPEKTYWA – feature film "Stary człowiek i pies" directed by Witold Leszczyński/Andrzej Kostenko.

The city, however, is also responsive to commercial success productions involving world film companies and significant producing companies in supporting their productions.
